• ISN’t Therapy for severe mental health issues? I’m really just frustrated with my Career / relationship (Or Whatever) right now. Do I Need therapy?

Something brought you here, right? Something in your life is stressing you out, and you either aren’t satisfied with your friends’ advice, or you don’t feel comfortable talking to them about it.

Therapy allows you to experience a healing relationship. You spend quality time with a skilled professional (who you can be completely open and honest with), that can see patterns in your thoughts and behaviors that you may not even be aware of. And, awareness is one of the first steps in change!

  • How exactly does therapy work?

Well, there are many different kinds of therapy, and I take an eclectic approach, meaning I incorporate different pieces of different therapies to tailor it to your needs. First and foremost, I take a person-centered approach, which means I believe you are the expert in your life. Only you know all your thoughts, feelings, memories, and experiences. But I will work with you to develop the tools to troubleshoot your life and give you a safe space where you can work through anything and everything.

  • can you tell me More about those “tools”?

Some techniques I really like to use are CBT, SFBT, and Mindfulness.
CBT- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is all about how our thoughts affect our feelings, which affects our actions/behaviors. Thoughts are powerful! We will work to understand them, challenge them, and change them when needed.
SFBT- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is about building awareness and implementing change (relatively) quickly so that you can start seeing results quicker and faster. You won’t be in therapy for yearssss (who has time for that?), but it will still take time and work!
Mindfulness- You don’t realize how helpful just taking a moment to step back and be present can be until you try it. We will learn many ways to practice this!

  • This all sounds great, now where and how Can i see you?

How does right from your couch while dinner is in the oven sound? Or on your lunch break at the office?

I have an office in Midtown Manhattan (19 West 34th St., easily accessible from many train lines- 34th St-Herald Square and Penn Station), which is the perfect location to pop in while shopping or on your work break.

I also offer online therapy, which is pretty new, but is empirically supported (that means researchers studied it and found that it works as well as, and for some people better than, traditional therapy). It is especially great for busy moms and professionals. You have more scheduling flexibility, don’t need to sit in traffic, or wait for trains. You get to literally be in your physical comfort zone while pushing your limits for personal growth. And you don’t have to worry about if you live “close enough”. I work with women all over New York, Florida, and abroad.

  • Do i need special equipment for Online Therapy?

Do you have a smartphone, tablet, or computer (AKA iPhone, iPad, MacBook for the Apple people) with a camera, microphone/speaker, and internet connection? Can you stream Netflix? Then you’re good! We will talk via HIPAA-compliant software, so it will be a similar experience to Skype or FaceTime, but far more secure. So that your stuff stays between us.
